A Reason for Raising Minimum Insurance Rates for Over-The-Road Truck Drivers

On Behalf of Rumizen Weisman Co., Ltd. |

The federal government is considering raising the commercial truck drivers’ insurance limit form the current minimum rate of $750,000.00 The limits on over-the-road truck drivers have not been raised in over thirty (30) years.

Proponents of the increase in insurance limits points to the fact that many collisions that truck drivers were involved in result in serious injuries or deaths. Last year over 4,000 people died in truck related crashes. Therefore, the increased insurance limits would protect the general public for catastrophic or life-changing injuries caused by reckless or negligent truck drivers. When a truck driver lacks the appropriate coverage, the injured party often settles for the low limits, although medical bills or damages may exceed these lower policy limits.
