Working with electricity can be extremely dangerous if you do not take the right precautions. When you deal with electricity in the workplace, your employer should have certain safety requirements in place to ensure that everyone is kept as safe as possible.

Always use a noncontact voltage tester

You should not only turn off the device that you are working with, but also test for power by using a noncontact voltage tester. This will ensure that you are never in contact with a live current.

Use tools that are insulated

When you are engaging in electrical work, it is vital that you use insulated tools. This means that it will not carry an electrical current. This can be potentially lifesaving when dealing with high-voltage currents.

Do not disconnect a device under load

When you are unplugging a lamp or TV straight from the socket while it is switched on, it is very unlikely to be dangerous. However, when you are dealing with much larger currents and devices, this act can be fatal. This is called disconnecting under load, and it should never be practiced.
