Austintown, OH (August 29, 2020) – A teen remains hospitalized after a bicycle accident in the Austintown area on Thursday evening. Just before 5 p.m., a 16-year-old teen in the Austintown area was riding his bicycle on Pembrook Road.

As the teen exited a driveway just west of Orkney Street, he was struck by a 2020 Chevrolet Traverse, which was driven by 53-year-old Thomas Neff. The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with law enforcement following the collision.

The teen was critically injured in the accident. Ohio State Patrol responded to secure the area as the teen was rendered aid on-site. He was rushed to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital and later transported to Akron Children’s Hospital for further treatment. At this time, the police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident.

Our thoughts are with the victim injured in this accident. We hope for his full recovery.

Bicycle Accidents in Ohio

Everyone who heads out on Cleveland roadways expects to make it from one location to the next without any problems. Regrettably, this is not always the case. In fact, thousands of people become involved in crashes before they reach their destinations. Being involved in a traffic-related incident of any type can have a damaging impact on a person’s health and wellbeing. Bicycle accidents are particularly detrimental as they often result in severe damages for victims. When small children and elderly individuals are involved in these accidents, there is a heightened risk of brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, and broken bones.

Although there are numerous things we can do to protect ourselves from being harmed in accidents, the unfortunate truth is that driver errors account for over 80% of traffic accidents each year in the country. Pedestrian and bicycle accidents are particularly brutal, claiming the lives of more than 5,000 people while leaving over 75,000 others seriously injured. If you’ve been injured in a bicycle accident as a result of another person’s actions, it is crucial that you reach out to a bicycle accident attorney in Cleveland as soon as possible.
